Chapter 1: Fate

I climbed off the bus into the streets of Canterbury. It was just like all the other little towns in England that you read about and having just finished reading "David Copperfield" I started to wander off and look for the doctor's school. I was off in my own little world looking for a new adventure when someone grabbed my shoulder. I looked around and panicked when I couldn't see how far I was from where I'd been dropped and told to wait and practically peed myself when I realized I wouldn't be able to get help from my supervisors if this guy tried to haul me off. I looked up and started to figure out how I could get loose and run to the nearest police officer.
The guy who had me was pretty good looking and didn't look cross at all. I might've started having my first crush if I hadn't been trying to keep myself from having an "accident".
"You're one of the Clavare (clay-VAR) students aren't you." It was a statement, not a question, and was made while examining my badge which, up until a second ago, had been in my hand. Funny, I don't even remember him taking it.
After he said that I started frantically swinging my head looking for someone to help me and trying to recall what I'd learned, not a week ago, in karate about self defence in cases like this. Unfortunately that's one of those things that just goes "bye-bye" the first time you need it.
My assailant looked at my face. "Well cool it I'm not gonna hurt you." It was spoken calmly but firmly, "Shouldn't you be done at the bus stop?" A whole new terror set in and my stomache began to turn, I was in deep.
"W-w-well." I didn't know what to say! I decided that the truth would keep me straight so I stuck with my usual tactic and hoped that this wouldn't be the time it was going to fail. "I was there. B-but, uh, w-well."
"But, uh, well what?" Again, it wasn't said antagonistically but the voice was deffinately getting impatient. I hadn't looked him in the eye but kept looking for some sort of escape from his strong grip. It got firmer as I squirmed and the whole story came out.
"Well I got here and I jst finishe dreading "David Copperfield" so I thought I'd go find the school he sttended!"
